πͺ Strength Series – Part 1: What Is Strength Training?
When most people hear the term “strength training,” they picture heavy barbells, big muscles, and bodybuilders. But at Linkage Fitness, strength training is about so much more than just lifting heavy or looking a certain way.
So… what is strength training?
At its core, strength training is the use of resistance—whether from weights, bands, machines, or even your own bodyweight—to improve muscular strength, stability, and control. But it’s not just about muscle. Strength training also improves:
-
Joint health
-
Bone density
-
Metabolic function
-
Cardiovascular efficiency
-
Mental resilience
It’s about creating a stronger, more capable version of yourself, inside and out.
Why do we strength train at Linkage?
Because strength carries over into every part of life. Whether you’re trying to:
-
Pick up your kids without pain
-
Shovel snow or hike a trail
-
Recover from an injury
-
Ski, bike, or golf at your best
-
Or simply stay mobile and independent as you age...
Strength is the foundation.
At Linkage, we take a “Strength First” approach to fitness. We structure every program around strength because it builds everything else: endurance, flexibility, coordination, and confidence. Cardio is important. Mobility matters. But without strength, the rest falls short.
What strength training is not:
-
It’s not just lifting heavy every day
-
It’s not maxing out until you break
-
It’s not only for young athletes or gym rats
It’s for everyone. And it’s for life.
Whether you’re 25 or 65, new to training or a former athlete, strength training can and should be a part of your weekly routine. And at Linkage, we meet you where you’re at—with programs tailored to your level, your goals, and your needs.
